Former Convict Admitted as Sydney Solicitor Amidst Professional Outcry
David Wayne, who served three years in prison for a $500,000 fraud, has been admitted to practice law, sparking disbelief in legal circles.
Sydney's legal community is expressing astonishment following the admission of David Wayne as a solicitor, despite his prior conviction for fraud. Wayne served a three-year prison sentence for defrauding taxpayers of more than $500,000.
Path to Legal Practice
Wayne, who was previously known as David Wayne McKenna, was jailed for a maximum of six years for knowingly submitting false tax returns. Despite this history, he successfully persuaded the admissions board of his fitness to practice law.
Wayne marked his new career path by posting on Instagram. On April 24, he shared a picture of himself holding a certificate recognizing his admission to the NSW Supreme Court, adorned with multiple rings. He also posted a picture of a certificate acknowledging his registration as a practitioner with the High Court.
New Role and Past Employment
Currently, Wayne is working for a law firm located in Kings Cross. This firm has its offices situated below The Elan, a prominent 40-storey residential tower where Wayne previously worked as a concierge.
