Former Cambridge University professor Jason Arday was found dead on Friday, the university announced. Arday, 41, was discovered unresponsive at an address in Battersea, South London, according to emergency services. His death comes amid allegations of plagiarism and questions regarding his academic qualifications and honorary appointments.
Cambridge University had announced an investigation into Arday after receiving "new information" about his background. The university stated that ongoing complaints regarding alleged academic misconduct were being handled separately, in accordance with its Misconduct in Research policy. The university also noted that support was being provided to Arday during the investigation.
Arday resigned from his position last week, which he had held as the university's youngest Black professor. He denied the plagiarism accusations and stated that his resignation was an effort to "reclaim some peace" for himself and his loved ones.
Cambridge Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Prentice expressed deep sadness over the news, offering condolences to Arday's family and friends. U.K. Education Secretary Lucy Powell also extended her sympathies and urged the public to respect the family's privacy during this difficult period.
