Former Biden Aide Predicts Socialists Will Be Sidelined in 2028 Election

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) will likely be sidelined in the lead-up to the 2028 presidential election, despite recent primary successes, according to former Biden White House aide and Democratic strategist Yemisi Egbewole. Speaking on "The Fifth Column" podcast, Egbewole, now a senior fellow at the centrist think tank Third Way, predicted that the movement would struggle to gain national traction.

"Going into 2028, the DSA... Baby gets put in a corner," Egbewole stated. She acknowledged that socialist-backed candidates have had wins in Democratic primaries but questioned whether these victories indicated broader support for the movement nationwide. "Anybody running to represent America is not going to seek anybody who's a part of the DSA," she added.

Egbewole downplayed the significance of recent primary wins in New York, where three candidates backed by figures like Zohran Mamdani secured Democratic congressional primary victories. She argued that defeating incumbents did not necessarily mean defeating moderates, citing Dan Goldman's loss as an example of an incumbent not being considered moderate.

Third Way, the organization where Egbewole works, has launched a $15 million campaign aimed at countering the DSA's influence through 2028. The group's co-founder, Matt Bennett, has previously stated that the DSA's ideas are "dangerous" and its politics "toxic," posing a threat to the Democratic Party's electoral success.

In response to Egbewole's predictions, RNC national press secretary Natalie Baldassarre criticized the Democratic Party. "It's too late for Democrats to rewrite their socialist brand," Baldassarre said. "They've embraced socialism with open arms, and every 2028 Democrat contender is a tax-hiking, open border radical who will eagerly bend over for the far-left base."

Curtis Houck, managing editor of media watchdog NewsBusters, expressed skepticism about the idea that socialists would be sidelined. "The train seems to have left the station," Houck commented. "The liberal, elitist media are deathly terrified of their base voters. The red-green alliance is a tidal wave the press sure don't seem interested in litigating."

The DSA has defended its growing political influence. DSA co-chair Megan Romer stated that the group believes in "people power" and will continue organizing despite opposition, suggesting that groups opposing them "will waste their money."
