A former contestant on America's Got Talent has been charged with murder and aggravated child abuse after his four-year-old nephew drowned in a swimming pool. Deshundre Vinson, 22, was arrested Wednesday in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
According to an arrest affidavit, Vinson was babysitting his nephew and the child's six-year-old brother when he allegedly allowed them to walk unsupervised to an apartment complex pool located approximately 0.2 miles away. Surveillance footage reportedly shows the four-year-old slipping into the pool, struggling, and sinking beneath the surface without any adult noticing.
The child was submerged for nearly nine minutes before he was spotted and pulled from the water. Lifesaving efforts were initiated, but the child died five days later at a hospital. Vinson is charged with first-degree murder and three counts of aggravated child abuse. A judge set his bond at $750,000, with a court date scheduled for September 8.
Vinson gained national attention as part of the R&B group Citi Limitz, which appeared on America's Got Talent and The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
