Ulric Jeffery Ulroan, a former mayor of Chevak, Alaska, has been charged with 47 counts of child sex crimes, authorities announced this week. The charges include first-degree sexual assault of a minor, indecent exposure, and furnishing alcohol to individuals under 21.
Ulroan, 48, who also served as a high school girls' basketball coach, was arrested Wednesday. Alaska state troopers are investigating alleged assaults on several teenage girls that occurred between 2009 and 2025, with investigators warning that there could be additional victims. The investigation began in January after law enforcement received a tip regarding an alleged abuse of a 17-year-old girl between 2009 and 2010, while Ulroan was serving as mayor. During the course of the investigation, additional accusers came forward.
At least six individuals have been named in the indictment. Authorities believe other alleged crimes may have occurred in various communities between 2015 and 2017. Ulroan also worked as a foster parent from 2005 to 2023, during which time some of the alleged offenses took place.
In October 2019, Ulroan and his wife, Mary, were recognized as "parents of the year" by the Alaska Federation of Natives. Mary Ulroan stated that the allegations have caused an "extremely painful time" for their family and requested compassion and privacy.
Ulroan is scheduled to appear in court for his arraignment on Tuesday. Alaska recently passed legislation that increased the state's age of consent from 16 to 18.
