Former AFL Star Mark Hutchings Mourns Partner's Death Days After Childbirth
Hannah, the partner of ex-West Coast Eagles player Mark Hutchings, has passed away just two days after the birth of their daughter.
Former Australian Football League (AFL) player Mark Hutchings announced the death of his partner, Hannah, on Thursday, stating she died two days after the birth of their first child, a daughter named Sofia.
"It is with deep sadness that I share the sudden loss of my beautiful partner, Hannah, two days following the birth of our daughter, Sofia," Hutchings, 35, wrote in an Instagram post. "I am shattered."
Hutchings, who played for the West Coast Eagles and was part of their 2018 premiership team, did not disclose the cause of Hannah's death or whether it was related to her pregnancy. He noted that becoming a mother was her dream.
"Thank you for all of your messages of support, I can't always reply to them all but I do appreciate them," he added. "Sofia and I love you and will miss you very much, Hannah."
The post included images of Hannah and Hutchings on a beach, with her cradling her baby bump. The announcement was met with numerous messages of support from former teammates, friends, and family.
Hutchings retired from the AFL at the end of 2021 after 120 games. He then played for the West Perth Football Club in the WAFL before retiring from the sport entirely in 2024.
