Football Fan Wins Nearly £1 Million on £4 Corner Bet

A football fan from Portsmouth has won nearly £1 million from a £4 accumulator bet that correctly predicted over 11.5 corners in 12 EFL matches. The 45-year-old Aston Villa supporter placed the bet, which had odds of 249,346/1 on Betfair.

The bet initially appeared unlikely to succeed, with only one corner between Reading and Barnsley and four between Cambridge and Plymouth at halftime. However, the second half saw a surge in set-pieces, including 14 corners in the Oxford v Bradford match, which ended goalless.

"It was emotional, I felt little bit sick at first making sure it was real, and then obviously the reality kicked in," the winner stated. He plans to share his winnings with family and friends, stating, "I'm sure that I'll be treating my mates after winning this one. It will be my round all the time!"

The punter discovered his win hours after the matches concluded. He intends to use the prize money to pay off his mortgage, buy a new car, and take his family on a holiday. He also plans to attend more Aston Villa games with his son.
