Florida Woman Pleads in Jail Drug Case
Reagan Cox sentenced after cocaine allegedly fell from her purse during an encounter prior to her arrest.
A Florida woman has reached a plea deal after months of incarceration on charges related to allegedly introducing contraband into a jail. Reagan Cox was arrested in late June on charges including resisting an officer without violence and introducing contraband into a county jail.
According to authorities, officers initiated a traffic stop in Brevard County because Cox was observed failing to maintain a single lane of travel. During the stop, officers reported smelling the odor of burnt marijuana and described Cox as lethargic. She was subsequently arrested.
Prosecutors have dropped a drug possession charge against Cox. She entered pleas to charges of introducing contraband into a jail and obstruction. A Circuit Court judge sentenced her to 18 months of probation and approximately $700 in fines. Cox also received a 70-day jail sentence, time she had already served following her arrest.
Reports indicate that during an intimate encounter prior to her arrest, drugs were allegedly placed in her "jail purse." Cocaine later tested positive from a baggie that reportedly fell from this purse. Sheriff Wayne Ivey of the Brevard County Sheriff's Office detailed the incident in social media announcements following the arrest.
Cox's plea deal resolves this chapter of the case, with her sentence including the time already served. The case concluded with the plea to obstruction and introducing contraband into a jail, with the drug possession charge dismissed.
