Florida Woman Indicted on Attempted Murder Charges in Shooting at Rihanna's Home

A Florida woman has been indicted by a grand jury on 14 felony counts, including attempted murder, for allegedly firing a rifle at the Los Angeles home of Rihanna and A$AP Rocky. The indictment against Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, 36, of Orlando, was unsealed Wednesday.

Ortiz appeared in court wearing jail attire and entered a not guilty plea through her attorney. She was ordered held on $2.6 million bail. The proceedings moved forward after another judge ruled Ortiz mentally competent to stand trial. The secret grand jury proceedings, which allowed prosecutors to bypass California's public preliminary hearing process, were held while Ortiz underwent months of psychiatric evaluation.

Prosecutors allege that on March 8, Ortiz drove from Orlando to the Beverly Hills-area property, fired at least 20 rounds from an AR-15 style rifle out of her Tesla, and hit an Airstream trailer the couple was inside, as well as the wall of their nursery where their children were with their nanny. Rihanna's mother and several staffers were also present in the home.

Deputy District Attorney Alexander Bott stated outside court that Ortiz "wanted to kill Rihanna," and that "everyone else was collateral damage."

The indictment supersedes previous charges filed in March. In addition to attempted murder, Ortiz faces 10 counts of assault with an assault weapon and three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or camper. She could face a life sentence if convicted on all counts. Authorities have not disclosed a motive or any connection between Ortiz and the musicians. Ortiz, a speech pathologist with no prior criminal record, reportedly told investigators after her arrest, "I wasn’t attempting murder."
