Florida Woman Charged with Attempted Murder in 'Love Triangle' Shooting

Katherine Kelly, 24, faces charges of attempted premeditated murder in the first degree, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and shooting into a motor vehicle following a dispute that occurred early Saturday morning. The incident unfolded in Cocoa, Florida, when Kelly allegedly confronted Angel Adenau, who was with Kelly's boyfriend, Elijah Baker, in a parked car.

According to court documents, Adenau stated that Baker had invited her to hang out, and they went to an open lot near a friend's house. While they were in the car, Adenau reported seeing Kelly approach and then allegedly fire her weapon at the passenger window. Adenau sustained a single gunshot wound. Baker then drove Adenau to her home, and he left before emergency services arrived.

Deputies from the Brevard County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene and later detained Kelly and Baker at their shared residence. Kelly initially told police that Baker had taken her grey Volkswagen Passat without permission and that she had used an Uber to track him down. She claimed she texted Baker, accusing him of cheating, and then went to confront him.

Kelly told investigators she approached Baker's vehicle with her pink and black Glock and fired her weapon, stating it was in self-defense as the car moved towards her. However, she later reportedly added that she wanted to "make a point." When questioned about feeling guilty, Kelly allegedly stated she believed in "Karma" and that Adenau should have known Baker had a girlfriend.

Baker denied taking Kelly's car without permission, asserting that he drove away after the shooting and then returned to pick Kelly up. Text messages presented as evidence by Baker indicate a tense exchange with Kelly shortly before the alleged shooting. Kelly accused Baker of cheating, and Baker invited her to come and see for herself. Kelly's messages included threats, such as: "I [sic] finna shoot sum istg [I swear to God]."

Adenau was taken to a local hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to her left shoulder. The extent of her injuries was not detailed. Investigators at the crime scene found tire marks and a spent 9mm casing. Kelly was booked into the county jail and is being held without bond. Her next court appearance is scheduled for November 11, and she has not yet entered a plea.
