A Florida woman is facing felony charges after allegedly attempting to run over two cyclists with her Mercedes-Benz convertible before a dramatic arrest at her $3 million home. Jill Allison Vernon, 58, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest.
Confrontation with Cyclists
The incident occurred on March 22 on Conservation Trail, a residential road in The Villages, Florida. According to U.S. Air Force veteran Adam Dennis, 65, and his girlfriend Dorothea Bower, 66, Vernon was driving her white Mercedes convertible at speeds exceeding 40 mph in a 20 mph zone. When the cyclists signaled for her to slow down, Vernon allegedly responded with profanities and gestures before pulling into a driveway and accelerating backward towards them. Dennis and Bower reported that they were forced to swerve into another driveway to avoid being struck, stating they felt in genuine fear of being hit.
Police records indicate that Vernon initially denied the confrontation, then downplayed it, and claimed she was the victim. When questioned about owning a Mercedes, she stated, "We have three Mercedes actually. White, white and white." She also suggested the cyclists were "idiots" and were not residents of the street.
Arrest and Disturbing Details
When officers arrived at Vernon's home, body camera footage captured the events of her arrest. After being informed she would be taken into custody, Vernon reportedly ran back inside her residence. During the struggle to apprehend her, she informed officers that she had soiled herself. As she was being led to a patrol car, two male officers discovered they had been covered in her excrement on their knees, legs, skin, shoes, and trousers.
One officer was heard saying, "I don't get paid enough for this s**t," while another expressed concern about bodily fluids. Vernon later attributed the incident to medication she was taking for hemorrhoids.
Background and Previous Incidents
The arrest footage has led to Vernon being nicknamed the 'Karen of the Villages' online. Authorities determined Vernon was the primary aggressor and had attempted to use her vehicle as a deadly weapon. She has pleaded not guilty to both charges and is scheduled for trial in September.
A neighbor described Vernon as a "neighbor from hell," noting she has been seen speeding down the narrow street in her Mercedes regularly, posing a danger to residents and those walking dogs.
In October 2023, Vernon was arrested for refusing a breath alcohol sample while suspected of driving under the influence. She later pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of reckless driving and was placed on probation. During her probation, she reportedly traveled overseas to locations including a resort in Kenya.
Vernon, a skincare therapist, resides in The Preserve at Pine Hills, an affluent area within The Villages, a large age-restricted retirement community in central Florida. Her home is valued at approximately $2.8 million.
