A Florida woman, identified by authorities as Samantha Adams, faces attempted murder charges after allegedly drugging a man she met on a dating app and attempting to extort him. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd stated that Adams, 39, tried to overdose the 69-year-old victim, whom she had been seeing for two to three months under the pretense of a romantic relationship for paid sex.

According to an arrest warrant, the incident occurred on August 17 when Adams and the victim argued over a vehicle he had purchased for her. The victim agreed to discuss the issue at his home. While at his residence, Adams gave the victim a shot glass of what he believed to be whiskey, but which investigators allege contained benzodiazepines. Following the consumption of the drink, the victim became ill. Court records state that after engaging in physical affection, Adams demanded $1,000 from the victim, leaving when he could not pay.

Later that day, the victim began feeling unwell while driving to pick up his granddaughter. His granddaughter found him unconscious in the driver's seat and moved him to the back of the vehicle. She then drove him home. When he remained unconscious, she called 911. At the hospital, the victim received Narcan for a suspected opioid overdose. Subsequent testing revealed benzodiazepine poisoning, metabolic encephalopathy, dehydration, and acute kidney injury.

Investigators noted that the victim does not typically drink alcohol and stated that he had never experienced such extreme drowsiness and disorientation after consuming alcohol as he did after drinking with Adams. He also reported falling asleep behind the wheel after leaving Adams' home on a prior occasion in August, which resulted in his truck reversing into an Osceola County Sheriff's vehicle.

Authorities found no evidence that the victim intentionally took benzodiazepines or had a history of opioid use. His regular medications do not include the drug.

Adams was arrested on August 27 outside a Dick's Sporting Goods in Polk County. In addition to attempted murder, she is charged with resisting an officer without violence, offering prostitution, tampering with physical evidence, and multiple drug-related offenses. A search of her vehicle uncovered prescription medications including hydrocodone/acetaminophen, oxycodone hydrochloride, Zoloft, Adderall, and Xanax.

Prior to this arrest, Adams was reportedly involved in a Lake County investigation where an individual named "Nala" was approaching elderly men with the intent to acquire their money and possessions. As of September 2, Adams remained in custody in the Polk County jail without bond.
