A 3-year-old Florida girl has died after becoming trapped in a toy kitchen set at a babysitter's home, according to police.
Boynton Beach police responded to a report of an unresponsive child on July 23. Officers arrived at the Meadows of Boynton Beach community shortly after 11 a.m. and found the toddler, identified by loved ones as Briella, with her head stuck inside the play set. First responders performed life-saving measures before transporting her to a local hospital, where she remained in critical condition until her death on July 27.
Investigators stated that Briella and her sibling were at the babysitter's residence when the incident occurred. The babysitter had reportedly left the home, leaving the children in the care of the babysitter's spouse, who was upstairs and periodically checking on them.
During one of these checks, the spouse discovered Briella trapped in the toy kitchen. After freeing the child, the spouse began administering aid until emergency personnel arrived.
Briella's sibling told investigators that some toys had fallen into the play kitchen, and it is believed Briella became trapped while attempting to retrieve them.
Authorities have not announced any criminal charges, and the investigation is ongoing. The Palm Beach County Medical Examiner's Office has not yet released the toddler's cause and manner of death.
A GoFundMe campaign established to support the family described Briella as "a bright light in the lives of so many" with a "kind heart, a beautiful spirit, and a smile that could light up any room."
