Florida State Football Dismisses Top Recruit Chuck Kennon After Felony Arrest

Florida State University has dismissed Chuck Kennon, its top-ranked football recruit, following his arrest on multiple felony charges. The charges stem from a police chase in Tampa early Sunday morning that reached speeds exceeding 150 mph.

According to police, Kennon was initially clocked traveling 79 mph in a 50-mph zone. When officers attempted to approach his vehicle, a Dodge Durango, a pursuit ensued. The chase reportedly concluded when the vehicle sustained a flat tire, leading Kennon to flee on foot into an industrial plant. During the search for Kennon, officers discovered a woman in the vehicle who was injured and distressed. She informed officers that she had asked Kennon to exit the vehicle multiple times.

Kennon, who turned himself in Monday night, faces charges of aggravated fleeing to elude (a second-degree felony), false imprisonment (a third-degree felony), and resisting an officer without violence (a misdemeanor). He is currently being held at Falkenburg Road Jail.

The university stated that Kennon was released from the program due to conduct detrimental to the team. Kennon was considered the sixth-best cornerback nationally in his recruiting class and ranked 51st overall, having chosen Florida State over more than 30 scholarship offers.
