Florida Son Arrested for Mother's Murder Amidst History of Destructive Behavior
Manuel Farfan-Cabello, 28, faces first-degree murder charges; neighbors recount past incidents and his mother's quiet demeanor.
A 28-year-old Florida man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of his mother, Ylda Cabello-Ynocente. Manuel Farfan-Cabello was taken into custody Friday in Tamarac after deputies discovered his 58-year-old mother deceased in their home around 8 p.m. The Broward Sheriff's Office pronounced Cabello-Ynocente dead at the scene due to multiple stab wounds.
Neighbors described Cabello-Ynocente as a "very quiet" and "sweet" woman. They also revealed that police had been called to the residence prior to the incident. One neighbor recalled an instance a few months ago when Farfan-Cabello allegedly smashed all the windows in their home. Another neighbor reported that the suspect, appearing to have blood on him, knocked on their door asking for a cigarette on the day of the stabbing. He had also reportedly been going door-to-door asking for money hours before the incident.
Farfan-Cabello appeared in court Sunday, where he was denied bond and ordered to undergo a mental health screening. His ex-husband, Oscar Montero, expressed his difficulty in processing the loss.
According to Ylda's sister-in-law, Rocio, who traveled from Peru, Farfan-Cabello has schizophrenia and has undergone treatment. She expressed hope that he would receive further help, noting that he continued to suffer from hallucinations. The family is planning to return Ylda's body to Peru.
Family members remembered Ylda as a devoted mother and a kind, hardworking woman who deeply valued her faith and family. The motive behind the stabbing remains unclear.
