Prosecutors are reviewing evidence to determine whether to file charges against a woman who fatally shot an Army veteran during a dispute over a parking space at a Walmart in North Lauderdale, Florida. The Broward State Attorney’s Office confirmed that the case has been formally presented to them by the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Bart Diguglielmo, a 62-year-old retired Army staff sergeant, was shot on June 30. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. The woman involved remained at the scene until police arrived and claimed self-defense, according to officials.
Video footage shared on social media appears to capture the confrontation. The video shows a woman exiting her car with a weapon and engaging in an argument with Diguglielmo, who approached her. The two individuals gesture at each other, and at one point, Diguglielmo raises his arms in an empty parking space. The video continues to show Diguglielmo following the woman around another vehicle as she points the gun at him, before a single gunshot is heard and he collapses.
911 calls released from the incident reveal terrified bystanders alerting authorities. One caller told a dispatcher that a woman pulled out a weapon and shot someone in the Walmart shopping center, noting she still had the gun. Another caller screamed that someone had been shot and was on the ground.
Diguglielmo’s sister described him as a decorated war veteran who served during Operation Desert Storm.
