A Florida pastor has been arrested on multiple charges, including allegations of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy and failing to disclose his HIV-positive status during unprotected sexual encounters.
Timothy Chaneyfield, 42, was taken into custody in Orlando following a tip received by the Polk County Sheriff's Office via Instagram. Sheriff Grady Judd stated that Instagram played a crucial role in alerting authorities to the alleged activities.
According to Sheriff Judd, Chaneyfield confessed to picking up the 14-year-old on at least three separate occasions and taking him to his home in Eagle Lake, where sexual acts occurred. The sheriff expressed outrage that Chaneyfield, who is HIV positive, allegedly did not inform the minor of his condition before engaging in unprotected sex.
Authorities ensured the minor received medical care, including treatment to prevent the transmission of HIV. Investigators later discovered a second victim, a 26-year-old adult, who also allegedly engaged in sexual contact with Chaneyfield and has since tested positive for HIV.
Chaneyfield, who preaches at St. James United American Free Will Baptist Church in New Haven, Florida, and was ordained in 2020, has been charged with multiple offenses. These include three counts of lewd battery against a child, failure to disclose HIV status, traveling to meet a minor, and marijuana possession.
Sheriff Judd described Chaneyfield as a "dope-smoking pedophile preacher" and a "super spreader" who may have infected more individuals than currently identified. He also noted that Chaneyfield allegedly showed no remorse and continued to engage in such behavior.
Authorities attempted to apprehend Chaneyfield in Baltimore, Maryland, but reported a lack of assistance from local airport enforcement. He was ultimately arrested in Orlando and transferred to Polk County Jail.
Chaneyfield reportedly claimed to be on HIV medication and asserted he had informed the child of his status via social media, a claim Sheriff Judd refuted due to a lack of evidence, citing the 14-year-old victim's statement that he was not told.
Prior to his arrest, Chaneyfield worked for 10 years at Crystal Lake Middle School. Sheriff Judd is urging anyone who believes they may have had sexual contact with Chaneyfield to seek medical testing and treatment, and to contact the sheriff's office for assistance.
