Florida Mom Arrested After Leaving Four Children Home Alone for Las Vegas Trip

A Florida mother has been arrested on charges of child neglect after allegedly leaving her four children unsupervised while she traveled to Las Vegas for work. Irene Miller, 50, was taken into custody by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office as she deplaned on Friday, October 23, 2026.

Deputies responded to Miller's home in Kissimmee on the evening of October 21 after one of her children called 911 to report that a dumbbell had fallen on her 9-year-old brother's head. Responding officers found four children, aged 9, 11, 12, and 14, without any adult supervision. Emergency medical services transported the injured boy to Celebration Hospital, where he was treated and released.

During the investigation, a deputy contacted Miller by phone. She stated she was in Las Vegas for work and intended to return on October 23. Authorities determined she had departed Florida on October 18.

Miller had informed deputies that she had arranged for a babysitter from Tampa to come to the home each morning to assist the children with getting ready for school and to check on them afterward. However, the sitter was not responsible for overnight care.

The children's father was contacted by authorities and agreed to take custody of the four children while law enforcement coordinated Miller's arrest.

Miller was subsequently booked into the Orange County Jail on four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm. Sheriff Chris Blackmon of the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office stated, "The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office will not tolerate child neglect. These cases will be investigated, and charges will be brought against the parents who are not properly supervising or caring for their children."
