A Florida man, Ronald Jeffrey Johnson, faces multiple charges after allegedly attacking a police officer inside a hospital on August 29.

Johnson, 51, was reportedly yelling at medical staff in the emergency department of Broward Health Medical Center when a Fort Lauderdale Police officer, working an off-duty detail, was called to the scene. According to an arrest report, Johnson then confronted the officer, shouting, "I want to fight you," before charging at him. A physical altercation ensued, during which Johnson allegedly grabbed the officer and resisted control attempts.

The officer subdued Johnson, described as 5-foot-8 and 240 pounds, and detained him. Johnson received medical clearance within the hospital before being transported to the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail. His mugshot, taken by jail staff, shows a swollen and bloodied face.

Johnson has been charged with aggravated battery on an officer, resisting an officer with violence, assault on an officer, and disorderly conduct. He was also found to be wanted in Georgia for making terroristic threats and for failing to appear in court.

The officer involved in the altercation sustained a laceration to his left hand that required multiple stitches. Johnson is being held on an $8,500 bond.
