Florida Man Encounters Crab Armed With a Blade

A Florida homeowner captured a startling encounter with a crab that appeared to be armed with a blade, swiping at him and his dog. Eduardo Alvarez shared a video of the incident on Instagram with the caption, "Florida is getting out of hand."

The footage shows Alvarez's dog, Summer, sniffing at the crab before recoiling as the crustacean displayed its claw. "Dude, are you kidding me right now?" Alvarez is heard saying in the video.

Alvarez then questioned where his dog found "a crab with a freaking shank?" He attempted to pick up the crab, which swung at him. He eventually managed to get a hold of the creature and took it to his backyard, warning his dog, "Summer, I dont recommend messing with this. This is like a gangster-a** crab."

Florida is home to numerous crab species, and sightings near residences are common. The viral video garnered significant attention on social media, with over 650,000 likes on Instagram.

Commenters on social media reacted to the video, with one user stating, "Yeah, we grow them mean in Florida." Another remarked, "We got crabs wielding weapons before GTA 6."

However, some viewers questioned the authenticity of the video, with one asking, "Did he manage to take the knife? I thought it was stuck on his claw."

A similar video from 2016, purportedly showing a crab holding a knife, was later debunked as a hoax. Jack Cover from the National Aquarium in Baltimore told The Washington Post at the time that such videos are a hoax and that the crab would be "absolutely distressed." Cover noted that without the knife, the crab's actions were not unusual.
