A Florida man, identified as Isaac Kinsey, 27, is facing multiple charges after allegedly crashing his car while under the influence and then fleeing the scene with his infant and toddler. The incident escalated into a desperate search through a swampy area as officers pursued Kinsey on foot.

Authorities stated that Kinsey crashed his vehicle through a road closure sign into a construction zone in Lakeland early Wednesday morning. He then fled the scene with his two young children, aged 2 years and 10 months, according to the Lakeland Police Department. Officers responding to the crash discovered child safety seats in the vehicle, prompting an immediate search for Kinsey and the children.

Bodycam and drone footage released by the police department shows Kinsey navigating a wooded, swampy terrain in darkness while carrying both children. During the pursuit, Kinsey stumbled multiple times, causing him to drop the infant and toddler into standing water. Alligators are known to inhabit the region where the pursuit took place.

Officers eventually located and apprehended Kinsey within the marshland, simultaneously rescuing the two children. Audio from the bodycam footage captures officers directing Kinsey and demanding he hand over the infant. Both children were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. Kinsey was also taken to a hospital, where he reportedly admitted to being intoxicated and driving with a suspended license.

Kinsey has been charged with eight misdemeanor and three felony offenses, including two counts of negligent child abuse with great bodily harm. The Lakeland Police Department credited their drone technology and the officers' perseverance for locating the children and preventing a greater tragedy, emphasizing that there is no excuse for impaired driving.
