A Florida man was arrested early Tuesday morning after a deputy clocked him driving 110 mph in a 60 mph zone. Gavin Ames, 24, told the DeSoto County Sheriff's Office deputy that he was speeding in an attempt to catch his girlfriend who he suspected was cheating.
The incident occurred just before 1 a.m. on August 1. According to reports, the deputy initiated a traffic stop on Ames for the excessive speed. When questioned about his driving, Ames did not deny speeding and offered his reason for the haste.
"I'm actually on my way to my cheating girlfriend's house," Ames reportedly told the deputy. This admission, coupled with the speed, meant Ames was taken into custody. Florida law designates driving 50 mph or more over the speed limit as a jailable offense.
While being placed in the back of the patrol car, Ames expressed disbelief at his situation, noting that he was being arrested while on his way to confront his girlfriend and anticipated she would need to bail him out. The DeSoto County Sheriff's Office is responsible for the arrest.
"I’m just in shock right now. I’m in the back of a cop car listening to Boss Man D-Lo at one o’clock in the morning to catch my cheating girlfriend," Ames said on video from the backseat of the deputy's vehicle. "Now, I’m going to get bailed out by her."
