Jovaughn Nathan Matthie was arrested Monday inside an IHOP restaurant in Orlando, Florida, after allegedly stabbing a rideshare driver. The incident occurred when the driver refused to provide a ride without a request made through the rideshare app, according to the Orlando Police Department.
Matthie has been charged with attempted murder. The condition of the driver has not been released. Following the alleged stabbing, Matthie fled to a nearby IHOP located in northeastern Orlando.
Body camera footage released by the Orlando Police Department shows officers confronting Matthie inside the restaurant. Officers repeatedly instructed Matthie to get on the ground, lie on his stomach, and place his hands behind his back. At one point, an officer with a police dog warned Matthie he would be bitten if he did not comply.
After Matthie was handcuffed, officers noticed a "long" object in his pocket. A closer inspection revealed a knife wrapped in white cloth, according to the video. Matthie was then taken into custody.
The Orlando Police Department has stated that certain information is being withheld to protect the integrity of the investigation.
