Florida Man Arrested After Violent Altercation Following Grindr Date
Police report details a confrontation involving a man who allegedly misrepresented himself, refused to leave, and resorted to physical violence.
A Florida man was arrested on charges including burglary, robbery, and assault after a Grindr meetup devolved into violence when the date allegedly did not resemble his profile photos, refused to leave the victim's home, and then physically assaulted him and his roommate.
Cesar Menendez de la Cruz, 37, arrived at his date's Miami home on Monday afternoon. The victim reported that Menendez de la Cruz's appearance did not match his profile pictures on the dating app, and he repeatedly asked the man to leave. According to an arrest report, Menendez de la Cruz then entered the bathroom and emerged naked.
When the victim attempted to call the police, Menendez de la Cruz allegedly took his phone. The report states that Menendez de la Cruz then pinned the victim against a bed, punching him and kissing him forcibly. The victim managed to break free and sought help from his roommate.
Both individuals attempted to remove Menendez de la Cruz from the residence, but he resisted by biting the victim on the back and the roommate on the arm. The men lost their grip, and Menendez de la Cruz retreated to a bedroom, where he began speaking incoherently.
Police arrived at the home and found Menendez de la Cruz still naked and speaking to himself. Officers instructed him to dress, but he did not respond to commands in English or Spanish. An officer then deployed a taser.
Menendez de la Cruz was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami. He faces charges of burglary with assault or battery, robbery by sudden snatching, tampering with a witness/victim, and resisting an officer without violence.
