A Florida man has been charged with second-degree murder after allegedly shooting a bystander who intervened in a roadside dispute following a car crash in Apopka. Raul Lionel Vazquez, 26, is accused of fatally shooting Daryl Alexander Hill, 56, on Tuesday morning.

Deputies responded to the scene at approximately 8:27 a.m. and found Hill with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Hill, who leaves behind a wife and a 10-year-old daughter, was remembered by a friend of his wife as having "a contagious personality, an incredible sense of humor, and a way of bringing laughter and joy to the people around him."

According to an arrest affidavit, Vazquez and a woman, Kaidy Honaker, were involved in a physical altercation inside their white Chevy Silverado pickup truck before it crashed into a black Lexus. The dispute continued on the sidewalk. Witnesses reported that Hill, who was riding a bicycle nearby, got involved in the argument. This led to Vazquez and Hill tackling each other into bushes.

Honaker also joined the fight, stating later that she intended to pull Hill off Vazquez. Following the altercation, Hill began to run away from Vazquez and Honaker with his hands in the air, yelling for help. The affidavit states that Vazquez then retrieved a shotgun from his truck and fired one shot, hitting Hill.

During an interview with investigators, Vazquez reportedly offered conflicting accounts of the incident but stated that Hill "was fighting him and getting the better of him."

At the time of the shooting, Vazquez was allegedly out on bond for a previous charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Court records indicate that the Apopka Police Department investigated that case, which involved Vazquez and another individual allegedly threatening someone with a gun in November 2025. Vazquez pleaded not guilty to those charges in February and was granted a $5,000 surety bond. The Apopka Police Department stated that bond decisions are made by the state attorney.

Vazquez also had a prior arrest in March 2025 for a domestic violence incident, which reportedly involved strangulation. He pleaded not guilty in that case, and his bond was later discharged.
