A Florida man has been charged with rape and indecent assault and battery after allegedly drugging and sexually assaulting a 22-year-old female employee on his yacht docked in Nantucket. Christian Bradley Williams, 54, pleaded not guilty to all charges during his arraignment on Friday.
According to a police report, the alleged incident occurred on August 9. Williams's wife had left the Nantucket Harbor on August 9 with their 2-year-old son to take him to preschool. Williams, who had been living on his yacht, the Chimera, for the summer with his wife, son, and a 19-year-old nanny, remained on board.
The alleged victim, who began working as a deckhand on the yacht in June in exchange for housing, told police she found Williams drinking alone when she arrived at the vessel later that day. He allegedly invited her to dinner and asked her to change into a dress, making comments about her appearance.
During the evening, Williams's alleged rhetoric became increasingly suggestive, according to the police report. The victim stated she became nervous and at 8 p.m. asked to return to the boat. She reported that Williams insisted they have another drink together on the yacht. After consuming a rum beverage, the victim stated she became dizzy and lost consciousness.
She awoke to find Williams assaulting her, according to the report. The victim stated she told him she was his employee and to get off her, but he continued to force himself on her. She reported falling unconscious again after being taken to his bed.
Upon waking, the victim noticed signs of sexual assault and left the vessel. She contacted her employer, Max Shapiro, owner of the Nantucket Launch Company, who had connected her with housing on Williams's boat. Shapiro has denied the accuracy of the victim's account of their conversation.
The victim then went to Nantucket Cottage Hospital for a sexual assault examination, which later returned positive for male DNA. Williams is expected to post $50,000 cash bail, which his wife is reportedly bringing to the island.
