Florida Gymnasts Removed from Team, One Athlete Denounces 'False Narratives'

Three highly recruited gymnasts have been mysteriously removed from the University of Florida's gymnastics team, prompting one athlete to speak out against what she describes as "disturbing false narratives." Skylar Draser, Lily Bruce, and Ly Bui are no longer with the program, and the athletic department has not provided a specific reason for their departure.

Gators head coach Jenny Rowland issued a brief statement wishing the athletes well and emphasizing the team's focus on "accountability, respect and commitment." The Daily Mail has sought further comment from a department spokesperson and USA Gymnastics, which lists all three gymnasts as members.

Draser, a senior, released a statement on Instagram addressing her departure. "I never imagined that stepping away from Florida in the middle of my final year would mean seeing my name circulating online attached to so many hurtful, and disturbing false narratives," she wrote. "It is heartbreaking to see people create stories about situations they know nothing about."

Draser stated that while she cannot control external speculation, she is confident in her character and contributions to the team. She plans to complete her degree at Florida this semester and enter the transfer portal for the 2027 season, retaining one year of eligibility. "As difficult as this chapter has been, I refuse to let it define me," she added. "I will learn from it, hold myself accountable, grow through it, and come out stronger."

Bruce and Bui have not issued public statements. All three gymnasts were highly recruited, with Draser considered a three-star recruit and Bruce and Bui earning five-star rankings. They were part of the 2026 Gators team that won the Southeastern Conference (SEC) championship, their 13th in program history.

Social media posts from Bruce and Draser show the three athletes attending a football game at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium and on road trips, suggesting a close bond.

Draser plans to use her remaining eligibility after finishing her degree, aiming to find a new collegiate program. She has been recognized twice on the SEC Academic Honor Roll during her time at Florida.
