Florida Father Allegedly Shoots, Runs Over Girlfriend With Child in Car
Christopher Smith is accused of fatally shooting Jessica Antolini outside a bar and then driving over her body, with his 5-year-old daughter present.
A Florida man is accused of shooting his girlfriend multiple times and then running over her body with his vehicle while his 5-year-old daughter was in the car. Christopher Dodge Smith, 40, faces charges including first-degree murder and child abuse.
According to an affidavit, Smith allegedly pursued Jessica Antolini, 30, to the Harbor Bar in Safety Harbor on Oct. 13. Witnesses described Smith as acting erratically, appearing "possessed" as he searched for Antolini.
Authorities allege that Smith confronted Antolini in the parking lot. During an argument, Smith reportedly produced a handgun and shot Antolini in the head. Police stated the bullet entered through her left eye and exited the back of her skull.
Following the shooting, Smith allegedly drove his vehicle, with his daughter and a dog inside, and ran over Antolini's body. He then drove away from the scene.
Smith called his mother, stating he had "messed up" and "shot Jess," according to the affidavit. His daughter also reportedly told police, "Daddy shot Jess."
Witnesses who observed the incident called 911 and provided descriptions of Smith's vehicle, which led to his apprehension. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but Smith did not comply, leading to the vehicle being immobilized.
Antolini was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. Neither Smith's daughter nor the dog were physically harmed.
Smith is currently being held without bond at the Pinellas County Jail.
