A Florida couple, Henry Parra, 55, and Adam Hlavaty, 42, who died in a helicopter crash in Kenya last week, were allegedly targeted by burglars who ransacked their Coral Gables home and stole several high-value items, including two luxury cars and a sculpture valued at over $500,000.
Authorities have arrested Geybert Alexander Garcia, 40, and Melany Perdomo, 24, in connection with the burglary, which is believed to have occurred between Thursday and Saturday, after the crash. Police stated that the suspects "ransacked the residence and removed numerous items belonging to the decedent such as personal and business documents, jewelry, electronics, and artwork." Among the stolen items were the couple’s 2023 Land Rover and 2020 Porsche Taycan.
Tips from the stolen MacBook and Land Rover led investigators to the suspects' residence in a nearby community, where both vehicles were recovered parked outside. Inside the home, authorities also found instruments for producing fraudulent documents and a Ford F-150 truck that had been reported stolen from Indian County.
During a court hearing on Wednesday, Garcia's attorney presented a document purportedly granting his client permission to use the victims' property. However, a family friend of Parra and Hlavaty told WPLG that this document was impossible, as the victims were out of the country when it was allegedly signed and would not have given such permission. The friend also noted that the couple had daily household help and that the home had been broken into, with a door destroyed and a camera ripped off.
Coral Gables Police Detective Wilfredo Diaz testified in court that he believed the document to be fraudulent. The judge, expressing skepticism, ordered both Garcia and Perdomo held without bond. They face multiple felony charges, including burglary and grand theft auto.
The cause of the helicopter crash in Kenya, which killed seven people including Parra and Hlavaty, remains under investigation. The other victims have been identified as Telemundo executive José Suárez; Ecuador's intelligence agency director general Michele Sensi-Contugi and his wife, Stephany Maria Hollihan Vasconez, a U.S. dual citizen; millionaire food entrepreneur Roger Edward Duarte; and the pilot, Josh Outram.
