Distressing bodycam footage released by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) captures the aftermath of a shooting at a Citibank in Tampa, Florida, that left two people dead and four injured.
The incident occurred around noon on Wednesday when a gunman entered the corporate office building. The newly released video begins with a 911 call from a terrified employee reporting the active shooting.
Response and Evacuation
The footage then shows deputies arriving at the scene, with one officer loading his weapon and running toward the building. Frightened employees were seen fleeing the premises, with some being directed by officers to evacuate with their hands in the air. The bodycam video shows officers entering the building and encountering individuals near the suspect.
"Shooter is inside, shooter is down. Shooter is down," a deputy is heard reporting over his radio. Officials confirmed that the gunman was fatally shot by an armed security guard employed by Citi. A female employee was also killed in the attack, and four others sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Other footage circulating on social media depicted the suspect, described as a tall, bearded man in a sweatshirt, exiting a gray sedan with a rifle. Paramedics were seen rushing gurneys to the scene, with some individuals being transported for medical attention.
Investigation Underway
Every room in the building was searched and cleared by the sheriff's department and a SWAT team. A total of 367 HCSO deputies responded to the incident, along with specialized units. Citi employees were instructed to gather at a designated reunification site in a nearby parking lot. A shelter-in-place order was also issued for Hillsborough College.
The relationship between the suspect and the victim remains unclear. Sources suggest to the New York Post that the shooting may have involved a vendor rather than a Citi employee.
Citi has maintained a presence at the Tampa campus, which houses approximately 3,200 employees, since 1998. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and further details are expected to be released by the HCSO.
