Florida Airbnb Renter Shoots Home Invader

An Airbnb renter in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, shot an 18-year-old intruder during an attempted armed home invasion on Thursday evening. The incident led to the arrest of two suspects on charges including attempted felony murder and home invasion with a firearm.

According to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, two armed men allegedly broke into the Airbnb rental around 6 p.m. The renter, who was not identified, then shot one of the suspects, Dareon Pubien, in the chest.

Pubien reportedly fled the scene on foot, leaving a trail of blood that led police to him nearby. He was transported to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery and was listed in critical but stable condition.

Arthur Butler Jr., a neighbor, reported hearing multiple gunshots, estimating at least 10, followed by sounds of people running. He called 911 after hearing the gunfire.

The second suspect, identified as Sean Thompson, 25, was also apprehended in connection with the robbery. Thompson was ordered held without bond. Pubien is scheduled to be arraigned once he is released from the hospital.

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department has not yet responded to requests for further comment.
