Florida A&M Coach Apologizes After Cutting QB's Interview Short Amidst On-Field Tensions

Florida A&M head football coach Quinn Gray has apologized after abruptly ending his quarterback Armond Parker's post-game television interview following the team's dramatic 28-27 victory over Alabama State. Gray stated that he intervened not to be rude, but to steer Parker away from a brewing confrontation on the field.

In a statement posted on X, Gray apologized to reporter Symone Stanley and the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) TV crew for the interruption. He explained that a tense situation was developing on the field, with tempers flaring, and he needed to ensure his players and staff reached the locker room safely to avoid the incident overshadowing the win.

Stanley was in the midst of questioning Parker about the team's mindset when Gray stepped in, patting his quarterback on the shoulder and directing him to leave the field. The moment left Stanley and the broadcast crew surprised.

"Coach said this week bye was all about soul searching," Stanley had asked Parker. "Tell me the mindset…"

Following the exchange, SWAC TV announcer Jared Oliver commented on the unusual end to the interview. Stanley later expressed her gratitude on X for the support she received from her peers, stating, "The respect is mutual and I really really appreciate you all."

While Gray faced some criticism for the abrupt ending, his explanation garnered support from fans who acknowledged the responsibility of managing player safety. Game footage from SWAC TV indicated some post-game trash talk between the two teams, which coaches intervened to separate.

The game itself was a close contest, with Florida A&M securing the win by scoring 14 fourth-quarter points. The victory improved the Rattlers' record to 2-4. Receiver Armand Burris was a key player, recording 216 receiving yards and two touchdowns on just four catches, a notable performance after having previously entered the transfer portal before returning to the team this season.
