Florence Pugh Stars in New Adaptation of Steinbeck's 'East of Eden'

Florence Pugh attended a photocall in London on Thursday for the upcoming drama series "East of Eden," in which she stars. The actress, 30, is set to portray Cathy Ames, the central antihero of the adaptation.

The series, based on John Steinbeck's 1952 novel of the same name, premieres on October 1. Pugh's character is married to Adam Trask, played by Christopher Abbott.

"East of Eden" is adapted by Zoe Kazan, whose grandfather Elia Kazan directed the 1955 film version of the novel. Kazan expressed her strong belief in Pugh for the role, stating, "I didn’t have a backup. I didn’t have another person that I thought would be just as good. She is the exact right person to play Cathy."

Pugh described bringing the character to life as "totally terrifying" but also a "really, really beautiful way" to wrestle with a complex role. She was joined at the photocall by co-stars Christopher Abbott and Mike Faist, and director Zoe Kazan.

In addition to "East of Eden," Pugh has a slate of upcoming releases, including "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," "Avengers: Doomsday," and "Dune: Part Three." She is also reportedly being considered for a role in a James Bond spin-off series, "The Moneypenny Diaries."

Accounts for Pugh's business, Flo Pug, show earnings of approximately £10 million, with £6 million in profit last year. The actress recently spoke about the importance of taking time to "stop and recharge" to avoid burnout, emphasizing that for her, success includes learning to slow down.
