Florence Pugh Stars at Jaguar's Electric Car Launch Amidst Political Backlash

Actress Florence Pugh drew attention at the New York launch of Jaguar's new £120,000 Type 01 electric car on Tuesday night. Pugh, 30, wore a plunging black waistcoat dress with a satin skirt for the event.

Pugh, who has been announced as Jaguar's brand ambassador for its new era, styled her hair in an updo and accessorized with a diamond necklace and platform heels. She was joined by models David Gandy, Elizabeth Lake, Jordan Rand, and Simona Andrejic.

The launch marks a significant shift for the 90-year-old British manufacturer as it transitions to an all-electric lineup. The new Type 01 is positioned as a premium grand tourer, with prices expected to start around £120,000. Jaguar aims to reposition itself in the market by focusing on fewer, higher-priced vehicles.

The Type 01 boasts 23-inch wheels, over 1,000 horsepower, and a claimed real-world range of 400 miles. The four-door vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 3.2 seconds.

This rebrand, which began almost two years ago, has not been without controversy. Jaguar's unconventional advertising campaign, featuring slogans like "Copy Nothing" and "Delete Ordinary," alongside the retirement of its iconic "growler" badge, has drawn criticism. The unveiling of a concept electric car, the Type 00, painted in Barbie pink, further ignited debate.

Notable figures, including former U.S. President Donald Trump, have publicly criticized the rebrand. Trump reportedly dubbed the initiative "seriously woke" and a "total disaster." Elon Musk and Reform UK leader Nigel Farage have also voiced opposition.

Despite the backlash, Jaguar managing director Rawdon Glover expressed confidence in the Type 01's appeal to a target audience of younger urban buyers seeking to make a statement. He acknowledged, however, that the car's design and size might not be universally appealing.
