A flight attendant with six years of experience in aviation is sharing tips with passengers on items they might not realize they can request during a flight. Sille Rydell, known on social media as @sillerydell, frequently posts flying and travel hacks to help travelers enhance their experience.
In a recent TikTok video, Rydell highlighted several less common requests that cabin crew can often accommodate. These include a bag of ice, which can be used as a cold compress for swollen feet or headaches. Bandages are also available for passengers who develop blisters from walking through airports.
For those with connecting flights or mobility challenges, Rydell mentioned that flight attendants can assist in arranging help to get to the next gate. While it's best to make such arrangements in advance, passengers can inquire with the crew, who can help coordinate with airport personnel.
Rydell also noted that some pain medication, such as Tylenol, may be available upon request for passengers experiencing discomfort. She emphasized that passengers should not hesitate to ask for assistance, even if they believe the item is not typically stocked.
Feminine hygiene products, like pads and tampons, may also be available on some flights, though Rydell advises asking directly rather than searching in lavatory drawers. She clarified that while not always a standard amenity, flight attendants might have personal supplies or know how to assist.
Other items passengers can request include hot water, which is useful for tea or instant noodles, and a sick bag, which it is advisable to request proactively. Earplugs for quiet, extra water or refills, and sanitary wipes are also among the amenities passengers can inquire about.
Rydell encourages passengers to ask for any needs, regardless of whether they seem unusual or embarrassing, stating that flight crews have likely encountered similar requests and may have solutions. "We probably have something, a trick, some medication, something that can help you," she said.
In a separate tip, Rydell advised on what to wear for flights, recommending comfortable, loose clothing and layers due to temperature fluctuations. She cautioned against wearing flip-flops due to potential foot swelling and cold cabin temperatures, and suggested avoiding shorts and crop tops to prevent skin contact with airplane seats.
