Dozens of people were evacuated from the Grand Canyon on Saturday after sudden flash floods inundated trails with a powerful wall of water. The surge occurred around 2:30 p.m. in Bright Angel Canyon, driven by torrential monsoonal rains, according to park officials.

Dramatic footage captured the event, showing a torrent of muddy, brown water violently moving down the canyon floor. The floodwaters tore through trail corridors, sweeping away debris, logs, and vegetation.

National Park Service search and rescue crews initiated an airlift response, successfully evacuating over 50 individuals from the historic Phantom Ranch lodging area. In the aftermath, park officials have closed Phantom Ranch and the entire North Kaibab Trail until further notice.
