FKA Twigs Settles Lawsuit Against Shia LaBeouf, NDA Voided

Singer FKA Twigs has settled a lawsuit against her former partner Shia LaBeouf, with a Los Angeles Superior Court judge ruling that a nondisclosure agreement between them is "terminated and void." The ruling allows the English singer, whose real name is Tahliah Debrett Barnett, to discuss her experiences without fear of legal repercussions.

The court filing stated that the nondisclosure agreement violated California's Stand Together Against Non-Disclosure Act, a 2018 law that prohibits confidentiality clauses in settlement agreements involving allegations of sexual assault, sexual harassment, or sex-based discrimination. Senator Connie M. Leyva, the author of the act, submitted a sworn declaration reaffirming this stance.

FKA Twigs' attorney, Mathew Rosengart, who previously represented Britney Spears, stated that the settlement is a victory for survivors of sexual abuse. "This victory frees her to discuss her experience, advocate for other women who might be less privileged, and support the charitable causes of her choice," Rosengart said in a statement to the Daily Mail.

The settlement is set to be officially dismissed in a court hearing on December 4. FKA Twigs originally filed the lawsuit in March, claiming LaBeouf attempted to control her for nearly a decade. Rosengart had explained that the action was a response to LaBeouf's attempt to "bully and intimidate" Twigs through a "frivolous and unlawful secret arbitration" in which he sought money from her.

FKA Twigs and LaBeouf met on the set of the film "Honey Boy" and dated for approximately nine months between mid-2018 and mid-2019. In 2020, the singer sued LaBeouf for sexual battery, assault, and emotional distress, alleging he knowingly gave her an STD and subjected her to verbal and mental abuse. LaBeouf denied the allegations but acknowledged to The New York Times that he had "a history of hurting the people closest to" him and expressed shame and regret for his past behavior.

The 2020 lawsuit was resolved through an out-of-court settlement on July 23, 2025, with all claims dismissed. However, last December, LaBeouf demanded money from Twigs, alleging she breached their settlement agreement by discussing their past in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. This led to Twigs filing her latest suit.

LaBeouf has faced other legal issues, including arrests in New Orleans in February on misdemeanor battery charges related to a bar fight. He pleaded guilty in June to two counts and received two years of supervised probation and a six-month suspended jail sentence.
