Five people were wounded in a shooting Sunday evening outside a bar in downtown Cleveland, including one person whom police said is believed to be a suspect, authorities said.
The Cleveland Division of Police said officers responded about 6:15 p.m. to reports of gunfire in the 1000 block of West 10th Street near the central waterfront neighborhood known as The Flats. An initial investigation indicated a dispute inside a nearby bar escalated outside, leading to the shooting.
Police said Cleveland Division of Emergency Medical Services personnel administered aid at the scene and transported all five victims to local hospitals. Their conditions were not immediately released. Officers did not announce any arrests Sunday night and said the investigation remained active.
Officials said Cleveland fire crews had been dispatched to the area earlier for an overcrowding call at a bar, and fire personnel reported hearing gunfire upon arrival. The Cleveland Division of Fire did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The shooting adds to a series of violent incidents in northeastern Ohio in recent months. In July, three police officers were hospitalized and one person was killed after exchanges of gunfire in an industrial part of Lorain, authorities said. That incident occurred when Lorain police, while on proactive patrol, encountered a man and a gunfight ensued at the dead end of River Bend Drive, Elyria Police Chief James Welsh told reporters at the time.
The Cleveland Division of Police said it would provide more information as the investigation develops. Detectives were continuing to interview witnesses, review video and process the scene Sunday night. No additional details on the identities of the victims or any potential charges were released.
Local law enforcement agencies routinely ask anyone with information or video of the incident to contact Cleveland police. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities said further updates would be released when available.
