Five individuals sustained gunshot wounds at Virginia State University, prompting a manhunt for several suspects. None of the victims died, but one person was in critical condition as of Saturday evening.

Campus police and Chesterfield County officers responded to the incident, finding the five injured parties in the university's Quad Annexes, an area located near campus dormitories. University officials confirmed that at least one of the wounded individuals is a student. The victims were transported to local hospitals.

The shooting occurred as the university's academic year was beginning. Residence halls opened for students approximately one week prior, and classes were scheduled to resume on Monday. Many students had recently participated in orientation programs for incoming students.

As of Saturday evening, police had not identified any of the victims. The investigation into the incident was ongoing.
