Five people were injured in a shooting outside a bar in Cleveland on Sunday evening after what police said began as a dispute inside a nearby establishment and "escalated" outside.
The Cleveland Division of Police said the shooting occurred at about 6:15 p.m. in the 1000 block of West 10th Street, in the central waterfront neighborhood known as The Flats. Officers said they administered aid at the scene and the Cleveland Division of Emergency Medical Services transported all five victims to area hospitals. One of the injured is believed to be a suspect, officials said; the conditions of the victims were not immediately released.
Preliminary findings indicate the violence followed an altercation inside a nearby bar that continued outside, the Cleveland Division of Police told Fox News Digital in an email. Police said they received reports of gunfire shortly after Cleveland Fire crews had already been dispatched to the area to respond to an overcrowding call at a bar, and that fire personnel also reported hearing gunfire.
Police did not announce any arrests on Sunday night and said the investigation was ongoing. The division said more information would be released as it becomes available. The Cleveland Division of Fire did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Sunday's shooting adds to a string of recent violent episodes in the region. In July, authorities said three police officers were hospitalized and one person was killed after a shooting in an industrial area of Lorain, outside Cleveland. At that incident, Lorain police — while conducting proactive patrols — encountered a man and exchanged gunfire at the dead end of River Bend Drive, Elyria Police Chief James Welsh told reporters at the time.
City and public-safety officials have faced heightened scrutiny over violent incidents across Ohio in recent months, and authorities often point to investigative follow-up and community cooperation as key to preventing further harm. The Cleveland Division of Police is continuing its investigation into Sunday night's shooting; officials urged anyone with information to contact investigators.
Local prosecutors or elected officials had not issued statements about the incident as of Sunday night. Police said they would provide updates when additional verified information becomes available.
