Five Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide in Rural Georgia

Authorities in rural Georgia are investigating an apparent murder-suicide that left five people dead, including the suspected shooter, late Friday night. The incident occurred at a home on the outskirts of Douglas, a city approximately 200 miles southeast of Atlanta.

Police Chief Brannen Pruette stated that investigators believe the deaths involved immediate family members who resided in the home. The deceased include four adult family members and the shooter, who died by suicide.

Officers responded to an emergency call placed shortly after 11 p.m. While at the scene, they found one woman alive, who was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, bringing the total death toll to five.

Earlier the same night, police confirmed the same woman had made another emergency call to the residence. According to Pruette, the call was made by the wife, who complained about her husband smoking inside the house and stated that "he was killing her with the smoke."
