Authorities are investigating the discovery of five bodies on a rural property outside Portland, Oregon, as a quintuple homicide. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a vehicle fire early Saturday on a property in Forest Grove, approximately 30 miles west of Portland.
Upon arrival, responders found the remains of five people, as well as several domestic animals. Detectives stated that they do not believe the incident was a random act of violence, but have not released further details regarding the victims' identities, ages, genders, or cause of death. No arrests have been made.
At a news conference Sunday afternoon, Detective Shannon Wilde acknowledged the complexity of the investigation, noting the large crime scene and the extensive work required to identify the victims and notify their next of kin. Sheriff Caprice Massey, with 22 years of experience, described the scene as one of the most complex investigations of its kind she has encountered. Authorities are urging anyone familiar with the property or its inhabitants to come forward with information.
