A Friday night football game between Newnan High School and East Coweta High School in Georgia descended into a brawl that resulted in five arrests and the discovery of a gun on the stadium grounds. The incident occurred around halftime at Garland Shoemake Stadium.
Dramatic footage captured a group of individuals engaged in a physical altercation, with punches and shoves occurring as the crowd began to scatter. Multiple deputies and a Georgia State Patrol trooper responded to the scene, intervening to separate and restrain those involved. Some bystanders were seen fleeing the chaos, while others recorded the event. Officers eventually directed the crowd to leave the stadium as several individuals were taken into custody.
The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office reported that three young men, aged 16, 17, and 18, were involved in the initial fight. It remains unclear if all those involved were students. A firearm was found abandoned on the ground after the fight, but authorities confirmed it had not been discharged. Investigators are working to determine who brought the weapon onto school property.
All five individuals taken into custody are currently being held as authorities determine the next steps, including whether formal charges will be filed. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported among those detained or other attendees. Officials from the Coweta County School System credited the swift response of law enforcement for de-escalating the situation.
