Fit Father, 32, Hospitalized with Heart Failure After Flu-Like Symptoms
A previously healthy Australian man experienced rapid deterioration of his heart function following what he believed to be a common viral infection.
A 32-year-old father of two in Australia has been diagnosed with advanced heart failure after a severe illness that began with symptoms similar to a common viral infection. Jale Sito, who was previously active and had no known medical conditions or family history of heart disease, experienced fatigue, loss of appetite, and a runny nose after contracting adenovirus and rhinovirus from his children.
Despite seeking medical advice multiple times, the severity of his condition was not immediately recognized. His wife, Tina, described the situation as a sudden and dramatic decline. "The signs were very different to a heart attack," she said, noting that he experienced extreme fatigue and a significant loss of appetite.
Six weeks prior to his diagnosis, Sito was working full-time in civil construction, exercising regularly, playing drums at church, and raising two young children with his pregnant wife. His life was described as busy but otherwise ordinary.
As doctors assessed the extent of the damage to his heart, Sito was informed that he had advanced heart failure. Without a transplant, his life expectancy was estimated to be as little as five years.
The family, who are active members of their church community, have received significant support from friends and congregants. They have been assisting with childcare, meals, and other daily tasks, allowing Tina to focus on supporting her husband.
