Fisherman Found Dead After Vessel Missing Off Outer Hebrides

Police have identified a fisherman found dead after his vessel went missing off the coast of the Outer Hebrides in Scotland. The body of 49-year-old Douglas Craigie was recovered following a report of the missing boat near the Isle of Lewis.

Craigie was part of the crew of the fishing boat Kilda, which was last known to be operating near the Port of Ness in the north of the island. His two crewmates, 40-year-old Norman Murray, known as Tam, and 23-year-old Murdo Morrison, remain unaccounted for and are being treated as missing. All three men are from the Isle of Lewis.

The vessel, Kilda, has not yet been recovered, and searches are ongoing. Chief Inspector Ross McCartney, local area commander for the Western Isles, stated that their thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragic incident and that the families of the three men are receiving specialist support.

"We are working closely with the HM Coastguard and RNLI to search for the vessel and the two missing men," McCartney said. He urged the public not to undertake their own searches due to challenging conditions and to instead report any information to the police by calling 101, quoting reference 3575 of October 13.

A police presence will remain in the Port of Ness area, and officers are available to speak with anyone who has concerns or information.
