Chelsea McGillivray, a 24-year-old from Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, died during childbirth at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. Her family reported that she experienced a cardiac arrest during labor.
McGillivray's pregnancy had been full-term when her waters broke. She initially went to the hospital, was checked, and advised to return home. However, her contractions intensified quickly, prompting her return to the hospital ward with her partner and mother.
According to family members, McGillivray was in good spirits and making jokes while in labor. However, when she was moved to the bed for delivery, she reportedly "crashed." Emergency teams initiated CPR immediately after a midwife raised the alarm. A relative stated that it was initially thought she might be panicking and struggling to breathe, but her condition rapidly deteriorated.
Prior to the incident, all of McGillivray's prenatal tests had been normal, and she had no known underlying health conditions. Her family emphasized that there were no prior signs of the complication that led to her death. She delivered a baby boy named Tommy.
