First responders in Fairfax County, Virginia, formed a human chain on Sunday afternoon to rescue a driver from a sinking vehicle that had crashed into a pond. The dramatic rescue was captured on police body camera.

Officers and firefighters entered the Chantilly pond, wading through the water towards the silver car. According to police, as the vehicle began to submerge, three officers removed their vests to avoid being weighed down and entered the water. They reached the driver, pulled her from the car, and directed bystanders on the bank to form a human chain.

The chain of responders then assisted in pulling the driver to safety. The woman was treated for minor injuries at the scene. The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department stated that the cause of the crash is under investigation and it remains unclear why the vehicle drove into the pond.

A statement from the police department highlighted the incident as a demonstration of the "teamwork, training, and dedication" of Fairfax County first responders.
