First Minister Vaughan Gething visited Gwaelod-y-Garth to speak with families affected by flooding caused by a quarry blast.

"Huge amounts of water" began flowing down the hillside following the incident, leading to reports of water reaching 1.5 meters (5 feet) deep in some homes. Fifteen properties were flooded, resulting in the evacuation of 13. Main Road in Gwaelod-y-Garth and Heol Goch, connecting Gwaelod-y-Garth and Pentyrch, were closed for clean-up operations.

Cardiff council confirmed that highways and cleaning staff worked on-site to clear roads and remove debris. The council noted significant damage to the roads, with obstructions including mud, silt, and other debris.

Support was provided to affected families, including arranging overnight accommodation for one family on Thursday and assisting a second family on Friday. The First Minister stated he wanted answers regarding the incident and its aftermath.
