Firerose Alleges Billy Ray Cyrus Kept Her in 'Farm Prison'
The singer speaks out against what she calls a smear campaign following her marriage to the country star.
Singer Firerose has accused her ex-husband, Billy Ray Cyrus, of holding her in a "farm prison" during their marriage, alleging that he strategically and emotionally isolated her from her support system. Firerose, who is releasing new music for the first time since their divorce, contends that Cyrus's actions were a form of "classic narcissistic abuse."
Speaking to Page Six, Firerose described her experience on Cyrus's Tennessee farm, stating, "I was for years not allowed to freely come and go from my own home." She detailed a gradual imposition of rules that limited her autonomy, including not having a car and needing permission to meet friends for coffee, go to church, or record solo music.
These allegations come amid the fallout from their seven-month marriage, which ended in 2024. During their divorce proceedings, Cyrus accused Firerose of attempting to isolate him from his children. Firerose stated that she is no longer in contact with any of the Cyrus children and reflected on the start of their relationship when she was 22, suggesting it involved grooming by Cyrus, who was over twice her age.
Firerose's new single, "Phoenix," addresses her relationship with Cyrus. The music video for the song was directed by Chris Applebaum, known for directing Miley Cyrus's "Party in the U.S.A." video. Firerose is now based in Los Angeles, where she has reconnected with friends and is determined not to be silenced by what she describes as false narratives.
Billy Ray Cyrus has since reconciled with his children, including Miley Cyrus, who spoke in October about prioritizing family and finding happiness with both her parents. Cyrus is reportedly dating actress Elizabeth Hurley.
