A fire broke out at a suspected illegal waste site located near Carrington Spur in Trafford, Greater Manchester. The incident has drawn attention to the growing issue of illegal waste dumping in the area.

Residents have expressed concern over the increasing volume and variety of waste being deposited at the site. Helen Carr, who lives near the location, stated that the dumped materials have evolved from agricultural waste to include household and construction debris, such as mattresses and old refrigerators. "The waste has just being growing and growing and getting out of control," Carr said.

Carr reported the waste site to the Environment Agency (EA) in July. The EA acknowledged awareness of the site and has since referred the case to its Area Enforcement Team. In an email to Carr, the agency affirmed that it takes illegal waste offenses seriously and will investigate and take enforcement action where appropriate.

This incident highlights ongoing challenges with illegal waste disposal, which can pose environmental and safety risks, including the potential for fires. Firefighters responded to the blaze, working to contain and extinguish the flames.
